How to Care for Your Mattress and Make It Last Longer

14 September 2026 · 3 min read

A good mattress is a long-term investment. With a few easy habits you can keep it fresh, supportive and comfortable for its full life, typically 7 to 10 years.

Rotate it every 3 to 6 months

Turning your mattress head-to-foot spreads wear evenly and helps prevent body impressions from forming in one spot.

Use a waterproof protector

A protector guards against spills, sweat and dust mites. It is the cheapest way to extend the life of your mattress and keep it hygienic.

Clean spills immediately

Blot, do not rub, then clean with mild detergent and water. Let the area air dry fully before putting sheets back on.

Give it a good base

  • Use a solid platform or a slatted base with slats close together.
  • Do not let the mattress hang over the edges of the frame.
  • Never fold or bend a foam mattress sharply.

Air it out

Chennai's humidity can leave bedding feeling damp. Strip the bed and let the mattress breathe in a well-ventilated room every few weeks, and avoid direct harsh sunlight for long periods.
